TEHRAN -- The Arasbaran Nomad Museum, which is Iran’s first museum of its kind, opened on Sunday at the Jalal Sarab Bathhouse near Mount Sabalan in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan, the Persian service of CHN reported on Monday.

Artworks and objects related to the Shah-Sevan tribe and the Aras riverbank nomads are on display in the museum.

The museum also contains a maquette measuring 180x180 centimeters which shows the temporary settlements and migration routes of the region’s nomads.

Iran has the world's largest population of nomads, numbering about 1.2 million.

Iran’s nomadic tribes are mainly Turkmen, Shah-Sevan, Kurd, Qashqaii, or Bakhtiari.

Most of the nomads still live and dress in their traditional ways.
